Congressman Andy Levin released the following update on his constituent, Danny Fenster, a journalist wrongfully imprisoned by the military junta in Burma in their ongoing crackdown on a free and independent press:

"I am sorry and outraged to say that I have no promising developments to report in the case of Danny Fenster in recent weeks. Nevertheless, I want to reach out to everyone because we must not remain silent. The urgency of our efforts has not diminished in any way – not Danny's family, not our community, and not the Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs, not any of us. We remain as committed as ever to bringing Danny home immediately and unconditionally. I continue to speak regularly with the Fenster family, the State Department, and we are pursuing all possible channels to move Burma's military authorities to release Danny.

"Sadly, the COVID situation in Burma remains of grave concern. The prison lockdown continues, and the family has had no contact with Danny since August 1 after fighting desperately to achieve that access. He has had virtual hearings which we and even the U.S. Embassy sometimes learn about only after the fact, none resulting in any developments in the case and with Danny remanded back to prison each time.

"I share regularly about Danny on my social media channels to ensure that, even when there is not breaking news, we continue to lift Danny's story and point out the emotional toll it is taking on the Fensters and our community. We look forward to sharing positive developments in the days and weeks ahead and will work diligently until we can #BringDannyHome."
