WASHINGTON D.C. – Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) voted in favor of legislation to posthumously award the Congressional Gold Medal to the 13 American service members who were killed at the Hamid Karzai International Airport on August 26, 2021. Congresswoman Miller introduced the legislation alongside Rep. Lisa McClain (R-MI) and their House colleagues.
"I am proud to stand with my colleagues in support of this legislation to honor the 13 service members who lost their lives helping Americans and allies stranded in Kabul get to safety" said Congresswoman Miller. "I can think of no one more deserving of this honor. These patriots are true heroes whose bravery and sacrifice will never be forgotten."
Earlier this year, Congresswoman Miller supported the National Defense Authorization Act, which included her amendment (http://miller.house.gov/media/press-releases/video-congresswoman-miller-urges-congress-hold-administration-accountable) to build a memorial for the service members lost at the Hamid Karzai International Airport.
A companion bill was introduced in the Senate last month.
