“The data are clear: the tax credit is working, and child poverty is plummeting as a result. I’ll continue to push my colleagues in Congress to make this tax credit permanent and highlight the urgency of providing long-term, robust support to working families.”
WARREN, MI – As fifth monthly payment hits, Congressman Andy Levin (MI-09), a member of the House Education and Labor Committee, released a new report from the Joint Economic Committee today estimating that 69,000 Child Tax Credit monthly payments were sent to families in MI-09 in October. Due to the enactment of the American Rescue Plan Congressman Levin voted to pass in March, a total of $29.1 million in tax cuts were sent back to hardworking Macomb and Oakland County families.
In Michigan overall, 1,021,000 monthly payments went to families in October for a total of $453.2 million. The average payment per household was $444.
"The expanded Child Tax Credit is what I call good policy and is exactly what progressive economists and child poverty experts have been recommending for years: monthly payments to working families to provide food, clothing and care for children. I'm proud to have helped advance President Biden's American Rescue Plan in March which delivered critical, monthly financial relief to families in Macomb and Oakland Counties to help sustain them through the pandemic," said Rep. Levin. "The data are clear: the tax credit is working, and child poverty is plummeting as a result. I'll continue to push my colleagues in Congress to make this tax credit permanent and highlight the urgency of providing long-term, robust support to working families."
Nationwide, the Joint Economic Committee estimates the Child Tax Credit tax cuts are pumping $19.3 billion into local economies each month, supporting local jobs and businesses.
