Today, Congressman Andy Levin (MI-09), member of the House Education and Labor Committee and workforce policy expert, released the following statement:
"Today's jobs report demonstrates that though unemployment rates fell to the lowest rate since February 2020 and wage growth is up, the emergence of the Omicron variant yielded lower than predicted job growth and more investment is needed to reduce long-term unemployment and to curb the pandemic.
"In addition to a robust public health response to expand access to free testing and high-quality masking, we need swift, comprehensive support to allow more people to reenter the workforce. It is essential that the Senate act immediately to put working families first by passing the Build Back Better Act. The House has done its job already by passing this historic piece of legislation, which reduces poverty, provides comprehensive childcare and pre-K to three- and four-year olds and increases funding for workforce training—all critical facets necessary to get our economy back on track.
"As the Omicron variant surges across the nation, I continue to encourage all workers to get vaccinated and boosted as it is the best way we can protect our communities and revive our economy."
