Today, Congressman Andy Levin, member of the House Education and Labor Committee, voted to pass H.R. 1836, the Guard and Reserve GI Bill Parity Act, which passed the House by a vote of 287-135.

"In recent months alone, National Guard and Reserve members have helped with COVID-19 vaccinations, protected our democracy after the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol and assisted Afghans seeking refuge in the United States, including in Oakland and Macomb Counties," said Congressman Levin. "I believe one of the best ways to thank them for stepping up and serving our country with courage and commitment is to address an injustice and ensure they have equal access to their earned GI Bill benefits. I'm grateful to my colleagues Chairman Mark Takano and Congressman Mike Levin for their important work on this effort."

The Guard and Reserve GI Bill Parity Act addresses the servicemember benefits disparity by expanding eligibility for the Post-9/11 GI Bill to count each day that a servicemember is paid and in uniform toward benefit eligibility.
