Today, Congressman Andy Levin (D-Bloomfield Township), member of the House Education and Labor Committee, released the following statement on President Biden's historic nomination of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the United States Supreme Court:
"Ketanji Brown Jackson is a phenomenal choice for President Biden's nominee to the Supreme Court. Judge Jackson is a keen legal mind, who offers a wide breadth of experience along with an exemplary judicial temperament. I am proud to stand behind President Biden in his excellent choice for the highest court in the land.
"Judge Jackson's tenure on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit has been marked by thoughtful and well-crafted judicial opinions. Her work before joining the bench provided her with key experience, as well. If confirmed, Judge Jackson would be the first former federal public defender to sit on the Court. For far too long, the Supreme Court has been dominated by pro-corporate justices. Judge Jackson's demonstrated expertise in both criminal sentencing and labor law will offer much-needed fresh perspectives on the bench.
"I am eager for the Senate to confirm Judge Jackson given her extraordinary legal mind, her unique and wide legal experience, and her commitment to finding ‘equal justice under law' on the Court."
