Today, Congressman Andy Levin (MI-09), member of the House Education and Labor Committee and workforce policy expert, released the following statement:
"Today's jobs report reflects incredible growth. I'm pleased to see the labor force participation rate increase as more people are entering the jobs market. The nation added 678,000 jobs and saw unemployment drop to 3.8 percent. If the coming months follow this trend, the nation will be on track to return to pre-crisis levels of employment in just 4 more months.
"Despite this exciting and speedy economic recovery, families are still hurting – especially Black and Brown families. To see sustained improvement in the economy, we need the Senate to pass the PRO Act so workers can bargain for better wages and benefits and to create more good jobs over time, as well as the Build Back Better Act to make immediate investments in our communities.
"In these months of strong economic recovery, it is especially important that we center the most overlooked workers. Throughout the pandemic, women have left the workplace in historic numbers. As we enter Women's History Month, I urge the Senate to pass the Build Back Better Act to provide investments that allow women to reenter the workforce for good."
