Today, U.S. Representative Tim Burchett (TN-02) penned an opinion piece in the Wall Street Journal calling on Speaker Nancy Pelosi to end proxy voting and virtual committee work weeks in the U.S. House of Representatives.
In his piece, Rep. Burchett points out how House members have abused protocols created in response to the coronavirus, like proxy voting, to duck out of official responsibilities.
"Several House Republicans, for example, used proxy voting so they could attend the Conservative Political Action Conference in February," Rep. Burchett wrote. "House Democrats cast votes via proxy for activities like campaigning in the New York City mayoral primary and accompanying President Biden during his recent visit to Wisconsin."
Rep. Burchettwent on to say Speaker Nancy Pelosi needs to end proxy voting and virtual committee work weeks to prevent further misuse.
"Exploitation of the House's coronavirus protocols won't stop unless the rules change so that members are expected to show up to work and do their jobs," Rep. Burchett wrote. "Speaker Nancy Pelosi needs to take a step back, look at the rest of the country, and re-evaluate how she is running the House."
