An amendment authored by U.S. Representative Tim Burchett (TN-02) was included in the 2022 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Rep. Burchett's amendment directs the United States Department of Defense to brief the House and Senate Armed Services Committees on the growing use of electric autonomous shuttles on military installations.
"Autonomous vehicles are being used to move troops and equipment around America's military bases," Rep. Burchett said. "My amendment authorizes Congress to use its oversight powers over the Department of Defense to ensure this new method is a safe, cost-effective way to transport military assets."
Amendment #79 by Rep. Burchett was unanimously approved on the House floor during debate on the NDAA. A final vote on the NDAA is expected this evening in the House of Representatives.
