Today, U.S. Representative Tim Burchett (TN-02) launched a web page outlining his Expanding Economic Opportunities in East Tennessee policy initiative. Rep. Burchett's legislative package is focused on increasing small business ownership, job creation and wage growth without expanding the size of the federal government.

"While Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer are pushing for $3.5 trillion in big government socialism this week, I have an alternative to their bad ideas" Rep. Burchett said. "Instead of sacrificing the principles of limited government, we need strong partnerships between the federal government and free enterprise to spur economic activity in distressed communities. My legislative package responsibly offers resources to aspiring small business owners, cuts unnecessary government red tape, and encourages private investment in often underserved areas of urban and rural America."

Rep. Burchett's economic initiative consists of three pillars: access to capital, government efficiency and criminal justice reform. Currently, there are four bills included in Rep. Burchett's legislative package:

  • The Opportunity Zone Extension Act
  • The Microloan Transparency and Accountability Act
  • The Prison to Proprietorship for Formerly Incarcerated Act
  • The Protecting Jobs and Wages from Regulations Act
Rep. Burchett's new web page can be accessed by clicking here. As additional pieces of legislation fitting into Rep. Burchett's economic initiative are introduced, they will be added to the web page.

In March 2021, Rep. Burchett announced this economic policy initiative at a roundtable hosted at Kerns Bakery.
