In a letter delivered to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi this morning, U.S. Representative Tim Burchett (TN-02) called for the House of Representatives to address fentanyl illegally trafficked into the United States. President Joe Biden received a copy of the same letter last week.
“In fiscal year 2021, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents seized over 11,000 pounds of fentanyl coming across the southern border, a 42 percent increase over the previous fiscal year,” Rep. Burchett wrote. “Our county cannot tolerate another year of surging overdose deaths. It is past time to fight back.”
Rep. Burchett suggested Speaker Pelosi and President Biden consider his legislation, the Fentanyl Trafficker Elimination Act, as a possible solution this problem that contributes to the deaths of thousands of Americans.
“I now respectfully request your support for my legislation and implore you to do everything in your power to prevent this deadly substance from entering our country. This is a crisis that affects everyone,” Rep. Burchett wrote.
