U.S. Representative Tim Burchett (TN-02) reintroduced the Tennessee Valley Authority Transparency Act today, legislation that requires the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) to ensure its decision-making process is open and accessible to the public. U.S. Representatives Steve Cohen (TN-09) and Mark Green (TN-07) are original cosponsors of Rep. Burchett’s legislation.
“I give TVA credit for improving its transparency in recent years, but my fellow colleagues from Tennessee’s congressional delegation and I want to make sure that transparency continues,” Rep. Burchett said. “TVA should always allow the folks in communities it serves to look under the hood.”
“I have found the TVA’s lack of transparency in matters of public interest very troubling, so I am proud to cosponsor my friend Tim Burchett’s legislation. This is a commonsense and overdue reform that will give TVA’s customers better insight into its operations,” Rep. Cohen said.
“As Tennesseans, we understand the impactful work conducted by the Tennessee Valley Authority. I’m proud to join Representatives Burchett and Cohen in an effort to ensure transparency across the TVA organization as a public utility,” Rep. Green said.
The Tennessee Valley Authority Transparency Act would require all TVA Board of Director meetings to be held in public and properly noticed. It would also require the TVA to make minutes and summaries of each meeting accessible to the public.
