Today, Congressman Andy Levin (D-Bloomfield Township), member of the House Education and Labor Committee, voted to pass H.R. 5129, the Community Services Block Grant Modernization Act of 2022, which passed the House by a vote of 246-169.

“The pandemic has shined a bright light on poverty and racial inequities in our country. Too many, including a disproportionate number of Black and Brown people, continue to face tremendous economic barriers that trap them in a cycle of poverty. It’s long past time we change that. That’s why I voted proudly to pass the Community Services Block Grant Modernization Act of 2022 today. The Community Services Block Grant, which has not been reauthorized in 24 years, has been an important pillar in fighting poverty and helping local communities offer much-needed assistance to low-income individuals,” said Congressman Levin. “Communities across Oakland and Macomb Counties rely on funds from this program to help alleviate the conditions of poverty through education, economic development, providing access to health care and so much more. I’m particularly proud that this legislation will fund trained navigators to help low-income individuals and communities gain access to affordable high-speed broadband service, which will be crucial in closing the digital divide.”
