Today, Rep. Haley Stevens voted to pass H.R. 842, the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act, of which she is a co-sponsor.
“Our economy needs a strong middle class to thrive. Unions are essential to strengthening America’s middle class and improving the lives of workers and their families,” said Congresswoman Haley Stevens. “When workers have the power to stand together and form a union, they have higher wages, better benefits, and safer working conditions. I am proud to stand with my brothers and sisters in labor to support the PRO Act.”
The PRO Act strengthens the National Labor Relations Act in the following ways: providing new tools to protect workers from anti-union intimidation and retaliation; addressing states’ anti-union “right to work” laws by ensuring unions can collect a fair share payment for the services they are obligated by law to provide; and increasing accountability for violations of workers’ collective bargaining rights. The PRO Act strengthens protections to ensure workers can hold free, fair, and safe union elections.
Protecting workers’ right to organize and collectively bargain is critical to rebuilding America’s middle class and improving the lives of workers and their families. When workers exercise their right to organize a union, they have higher wages, better benefits, and safer working conditions. The PRO Act restores fairness to the economy by strengthening the federal laws that protect workers’ right to join a union.
