This week, the House of Representatives passed two bills to enhance background checks on gun sales and protect American communities.
WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congresswoman Haley Stevens (MI-11) voted to pass essential gun violence prevention legislation. She voted in support of the Bipartisan Background Checks Act (H.R. 8), and the Enhanced Background Checks Act (H.R. 1446). These bills work to close gun purchasing loopholes by mandating background checks on all gun sales.
“Too many Americans are killed by gun violence every single day. Today, the House of Representatives took significant action to stop the epidemic of gun violence and protect our communities,” said Congresswoman Stevens. “These bills take necessary steps to ensure that people who should never be allowed to own a firearm do not get access to one through unlicensed sellers. Requiring background checks on all gun sales will save lives and make our communities safer. I applaud the advocates, parents, and community members who have pushed for these bipartisan, common sense safety measures and encourage the Senate to take similar action expeditiously.”
Congresswoman Stevens is a member of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force and voted for both of these bills in the 116th Congress.
