Today, Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI) announced that she secured the inclusion of $2 million dollars for improvements to the Village of Milford water system as part of the Interior, Water and Related Agencies Subcommittee spending package.
This Community Funding Project will help the Village of Milford to bring new water sources online and transform their contingency well into a main production well. This entails approximately 3,400 feet of 12- or 16-inch transmission main from the new water well to the existing water treatment plant. Further complicating the issues was the identification of PFAS in the Huron River in 2018 near the well. This funding recommendation was made in their 2014 Water Reliability Study. The connection of the contingency well to the existing water treatment plant is needed to keep pace with Village demand.
“I am proud to have secured this much needed funding for the Village of Milford,” said Rep. Stevens. “The necessity of a new well has been a local issue for well over a decade, due to potential environmental threats to the Village’s existing well site. I will always be an advocate for our 11th District communities in Congress and this funding will help keep Milford’s water safe and clean for years to come.”
Rep. Stevens submitted several Community Project Funding requests to the Appropriations Committee, FOUND HERE. Information on the status of additional requests will be announced in the coming days.
The inclusion of this funding in the Appropriations Committee draft bill is the first step in the funding process. Rep. Stevens will continue to fight for this funding as the bill moves to the full Appropriations Committee, consideration on the House Floor, and negotiations with the Senate.
