Dear Residents of Michigan’s 11th Congressional District, This year Congress passed historic legislation to fix Michigan’s badly outdated roads and bridges, fund scientific research at historic levels, and shore up pensions for those on the brink of losing their retirements. I am proud of the work that has been done to strengthen America’s middle class and lower costs for hardworking Michigan families through the Child Tax Credit. In November, the House of Representatives passed the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. This legislation will deliver about $8.97 billion in badly needed hard infrastructure funds to Michigan alone. Billions of federal dollars will transform our roads, bridges and pipes. Further, a $110 million investment to boost electric vehicle charging station infrastructure will help Michigan lead the way in innovation and sustainability. Since coming to Congress, I have been a champion for STEM education and am proud to have overseen the House passage of the bipartisan National Science Foundation For the Future Act. The bill puts forth a suite of sweeping proposals – from scaling up PreK-12 STEM education research innovations to modernizing higher education student training. National Science Foundation funded research has spurred innovation and launched new industries that advance our competitiveness and improve our quality of life. Countries around the world have taken notice and are investing aggressively to replicate our success by building their own research base. The United States must lead by example and restore and expand funding for the National Science Foundation. I look forward to seeing this legislation signed into law by President Biden in 2022. Michigan’s small businesses and manufacturers are the backbone of our economy, and this year I launched my Women Owned Wednesday initiative as well as the House Democratic Manufacturing Working Group with House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn. Michigan has an incredibly diverse and talented workforce, and it is time we uplift the women-owned businesses that help power our regional economy. I have met with so many incredible business owners this year and continue to advocate for small businesses who are still feeling the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Democratic Manufacturing Working Group aims to ensure that our small and mid-sized manufacturers can compete in the global economy and ensure supply chain security and environmental sustainability. These issues are more important than ever before and supply chain resilience remains one of my top priorities in Congress. In 2021 alone, my office has returned $37,512,892.88 to constituents and closed 1,612 federal issue cases ranging from passport assistance to Department of Veterans Affairs challenges. This means that my office has returned our annual operating budget to the taxpayers of Michigan’s 11th Congressional District 25 times over. This report is just a snapshot of the work that I have done this year alongside my staff in Washington and Livonia. I encourage you to follow me on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram as well as signing up for my email newsletters to get the most up to date information about what I am working on in Congress. Thank you for placing your trust in me. I look forward to another productive year in Congress delivering for Michiganders and lowering costs for working families!
