“As we celebrate Independence Day—whether that’s cheering on the Mount Marathon runners, watching one of Alaska’s many Fourth of July parades, or simply getting together with family and friends for a BBQ – let us remember the freedoms and liberties we enjoy as Americans are not free.

“We must not forget that America is exceptional, and that living here is truly a blessing. But we also recognize that our experience is not the standard for the world, where too many are fighting for freedom. And we should not take our democracy for granted.

“Today and every day, I am forever grateful for those who have served our nation, under the flag, in the name of freedom. We thank them for their service and sacrifice.

“From my family to yours, Happy Independence Day!”
