Attorney and educator, Michael Griffie, recently released a video announcing his candidacy for U.S. Congress in Michigan’s 13th Congressional District.

The video was released on Wednesday, January 19 on his campaign’s website and his social media channels.

“District 13 is a special place to me. My Grandfather arrived here to Ecorse, Michigan in December of 1948 and lived here for the rest of his life. My mother was raised here, and I live here and want to be a voice in Washington for the community I love,” said Griffie.

Griffie’s career has touched many sectors—both public and private. Beginning as a high school English teacher, Griffie began working in the Pontiac School District after graduating from Wayne State University. He went on to serve as founding principal of Cornerstone Health High School in Detroit and later principal of Hamtramck Academy. While serving as principal, Griffie attended Western Michigan University Cooley Law School at night and went on to practice employment law at Butzel Long—one of Michigan’s largest law firms. Griffie then went on to work at Michigan Legislative Consultants—Michigan’s oldest multi-client lobbying firms.

Griffie is currently an official with Teach for America-Detroit where he serves as Senior Managing Director of External Affairs. Griffie was instrumental in securing a $10M appropriation for Teach for America-Detroit to address the teacher shortage crisis in Michigan.

“The 13th District needs a hardworking, consensus builder whose focus is right here to get things done,” said Griffie.

The Griffie for Congress Campaign announced it raised $100K in its first week of the campaign.
