WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Alex X. Mooney announced over $1.8 million in funding for West Virginia distributed by AmeriCorps. This grant will tackle the challenges of opioid addiction and recovery, as well as community building through national service and volunteering.
West Virginia’s Second Congressional District will receive grants for drug prevention and enhancing communities through LifeBridge AmeriCorps, which addresses the critical needs of opioid prevention programs, financial literacy and veterans assistance. Additionally, West Virginia will receive assistance from the Appalachian Forest National Heritage Area (AFNHA): Enhancing Assets to Benefit Communities where they will conduct public land improvement, assessment projects, environmental stewardship education and volunteer management.
“I am pleased to announce this important funding for the Second Congressional District and all of West Virginia,” said Congressman Mooney. “The AmeriCorps drug prevention programs will help strengthen our communities and assist West Virginians who need recovery support.”
