WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) today released the following statement and resourcesregarding ongoing passport application delays experienced by Third District residents.

"As we emerge from COVID-19, it's wonderful to see Americans traveling once again," said Congresswoman Miller. "However, a surge of people seeking passports for international travel – combined with an already existing backlog at the State Department due to COVID-19 closures – has resulted in a significant delay in passport application processing. To avoid this issue, I encourage all West Virginians to apply for your passport as soon as possible, or at least six months before your travel date. If you are currently experiencing these delays, please reach out to my office for assistance. My team stands ready to help you and your families get back to traveling the world as soon as possible!"

According to the State Department, routine service can take up to 18 weeks from the day an application is submitted to the day a new passport is received. The 18-week time frame includes up to 12 weeks for processing and up to six weeks for mailing times on the front and back end. Expedited service can take up to 12 weeks from the day an application is submitted to the day a new passport is received. The 12-week time frame includes up to six weeks for processing and up to six weeks for mailing times on the front and back end.
