Democrat Kurt Schrader currently holds the Congressional seat for Oregon’s 5th District as he serves his seventh term in the US House of Representatives.

But there’s someone who is hoping to challenge him in the general election: the former mayor of Happy Valley, Lori Chavez-Deremer.

While we won't know until Oregon's May 17 primary who will compete for the seat in the 5th Congressional District, Chavez-Deremer is asked how she thinks the recent redistricting will impact the Republican who wins the right to represent their party in that race.

“I think it’s exciting just for Oregon to have a more diverse voice in Washington DC, to have a Republican help out our current Congressman Cliff Bentz, and balance out the voices of Oregonians in Washington DC," said Chavez-Deremer.

In the one-on-one interview, Chavez-Deremer is asked what she thinks the biggest issues are for people who live in the 5th District and, if elected, what would she do to address those issues.
