WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) delivered remarks and participated in the ribbon cutting to launch the Marshall University Aviation Maintenance & Technology Program. She also toured Level 1 Fasteners, Inc.
Congresswoman Miller was joined at the ribbon cutting by Marshall University President Jerome Gilbert, Mountwest Community & Technical College Interim President Michael Sellards, Governor Jim Justice, Senator Shelley Moore Capito, West Virginia Secretary of Commerce Ed Gaunch, and other community leaders. This program, a collaboration between Marshall University, Mountwest Community & Technical College, and the Robert C. Byrd Institute, is based at the Huntington Tri-State Airport. It will allow Marshall University students to obtain their degrees in addition to earning FAA certifications in airframe and powerplant maintenance. Congresswoman Miller's remarks are below.
Afterwards, Congresswoman Miller toured Level 1 Fasteners, Inc. to see first-hand how they provide high-quality "LEVEL 1" certified specialty fasteners for the United States Navy and its subcontractors. During her visit, Congresswoman Miller discussed with company leaders how she can support the company's continued investment in the state and how they can work together to create more jobs for hardworking West Virginians.
"It was a pleasure to tour Level 1 Fasteners in Huntington today to see how they produce world-class certified specialty fasteners for our armed forces," said Congresswoman Miller. "Their invaluable operation equips America's military with the resources it needs to keep us safe, while also employing West Virginians and strengthening the local economy. I look forward to continuing to work together to bring more investment and jobs into our community and secure West Virginia as manufacturing hub for the world."

Congresswoman Miller's remarks as prepared for the Marshall University Aviation Maintenance & Technology Program ribbon cutting:
Thank you, Interim President Sellards for that kind introduction, and thank you all for being here today.
I am Congresswoman Carol Miller and I am so happy to be here on this momentous occasion.
The Aviation Maintenance & Technology Program that you all have spearheaded exemplifies the great things that can happen when people work together to support West Virginia's students, businesses, and communities.
Because of the great work by Marshall University, Mountwest Community and Technical College, and the Robert C. Byrd Institute, West Virginia's next generation of aviation workers will have access to this unique, cross-institutional program.
Congratulations on this outstanding accomplishment.
West Virginia's aviation industry is on the rise. I am proud to say that southern West Virginia has 17 AeroReady sites.
With any growing industry, a pro-business environment and a skilled work force are vital to its success.
This program will ensure West Virginia not only has that pro-business environment, but also a world-class work force to serve its growing aviation industry.
Today's launch is an important step forward to strengthen West Virginia's aviation industry and provide our state's aviation workers with the best training opportunities possible.
Thank you to President Gilbert and Interim President Sellards for your dedication to our next generation of pilots and maintenance workers. Your hard work and cooperation will give students the tools they need to succeed for decades to come.
I know your partnership in the creation of the joint Associate in Applied Sciences degree will serve as a model forcollaboration across the country and will help put West Virginia on the map when it comes to aviation education.
I am proud to stand alongside you all to support this historic launch.
I will always work to bring more investment opportunities such as this to our state, so that we can secure it as an aviation hub for the nation and keep hardworking West Virginians employed.
Together, we will continue to make West Virginia the best state to live, work, and raise a family.
Thank you and God Bless.
