RALEIGH: Today, Cheri Beasley spoke with North Carolinians about the barriers to accessing quality, affordable health care and shared her family’s own story navigating the health care system.
“Many North Carolinians, including those we heard from today, are struggling to access the care they need to live healthy lives. That’s unacceptable – and our leaders in Washington must take action,” said Cheri Beasley. “In the Senate, I will fight to expand access to quality, affordable health care to ensure that people across the state can get the care they need regardless of where they live or how much money they make.”
Beasley shared her experiences fighting with insurance companies to ensure her sons could get the health care they needed. She heard from North Carolinians across the state about their experiences, including Cassandra Brooks, a childcare provider who talked about the challenges many face in affording health insurance. Beasley called for common-sense action to expand access to health care and lower costs, including expanding the Affordable Care Act with a public option, expanding Medicaid, and lowering drug prices.
“Through my work as a childcare provider, I’ve seen first-hand how inaccessible and unaffordable health care can be. As people here in North Carolina struggle, our leaders in Washington need to act. That’s why I’m so grateful that Cheri Beasley is committed to fighting for affordable health care in the Senate,” said Cassandra Brooks, Executive Director of Little Believer’s Academy.
This week, Beasley wrote an op-ed in the Charlotte Post about eradicating disparities and expanding access to health care.
