RALEIGH: On the twelfth anniversary of the passage of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate Cheri Beasley reaffirmed her commitment to protect and expand the Affordable Care Act with a public option to ensure North Carolinians have access to affordable health care and protect coverage for people with pre-existing conditions.

“Twelve years ago, the Affordable Care Act was signed into law, helping countless North Carolinians get access to the health care they need,” said Cheri Beasley. “As Senate Republicans continue their attacks on Americans’ access to affordable health care, it is more important than ever that we elect a Senator who will work to lower health care and prescription drug costs, expand access to care, and protect coverage for people with pre-existing conditions.”

In 2022, nearly 700,000 North Carolinians across the state relied on the ACA’s marketplace to find affordable health insurance – 134,000 more people than the previous year. Additionally, the ACA protects the more than 1.7 million North Carolinians living with pre-existing conditions from being denied health care coverage.
