RALEIGH: For the fourth consecutive quarter, Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate Cheri Beasley outraised the entire field, including Trump-endorsed candidate Congressman Ted Budd and former Governor Pat McCrory. Beasley raised more than $3.6 million, with $5.1 million cash-on-hand, and contributions from all 100 counties.
“Cheri continues to earn unmatched support from North Carolinians across the state because they know she is the only candidate who will be an independent voice that puts North Carolina first in the U.S. Senate,” said Cheri Beasley for North Carolina Campaign Manager Travis Brimm. “While Republican candidates brawl and struggle to earn support, we’re going to keep building on the enthusiasm for our campaign and Cheri’s candidacy and raising the resources needed to win in November.”
Beasley’s fundraising haul was more than triple what Budd and McCrory each raised this quarter, as well as more than the entire Republican field combined. In addition, this week, Cheri launched her first ad, “The Road,” highlighting her commitment to serving North Carolina with justice and integrity as a public defender, judge, and Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, news outlets continue to report on the “brawl among Republican candidates,” and the possibility the primary could “head to a July runoff” if no candidate receives more than 30 percent of the vote. As one North Carolina outlet writes on McCrory “spiraling toward defeat,” an editorial from the Capitol Broadcasting Company slams Budd as a “truth last” Republican.
