United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1208 Endorses Cheri Beasley for U.S. Senate

RALEIGH: Today, United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 1208 announced their endorsement of Cheri Beasley for U.S. Senate. UFCW Local 1208 represents over 3,500 North Carolina frontline workers in meatpacking, food processing, and many other essential businesses.

“With a proven track record of fighting for fair wages; safe working conditions; affordable childcare; and paid family and medical leave, we know that Former Chief Justice Beasley will continue to be a champion for hardworking North Carolinians in Washington. Former Chief Justice Beasley is also a former member of SEIU and a firm believer in the labor movement,” said President Pedro Lira, UFCW Local 1208. “She is a strong supporter of the PRO ACT, which would expand the labor protections related to employees’ rights to organize and collectively bargain in the workplace, and the Paycheck Fairness Act that addresses wage discrimination on the basis of sex. As the union for nearly 4,000 North Carolina workers on the frontlines of this pandemic, we are proud to endorse Former Chief Justice Beasley in this race and are confident she will deliver the leadership that hard-working North Carolinians deserve.”

UFCW Local 1208 joins over 200 leaders in endorsing Beasley for U.S. Senate, including Governor Roy Cooper, Attorney General Josh Stein, all Democratic members of North Carolina’s congressional delegation, more than 100 faith leaders, and key organizations including NC State AFL-CIO, NCAE, EMILY’s List, Congressional Black Caucus PAC, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, End Citizens United// Let America Vote, Higher Heights for America PAC, The Collective PAC. Beasley has outraised every candidate for U.S. Senate in North Carolina since entering the race.
