RALEIGH: Today, Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate Cheri Beasley recognized Sexual Assault Awareness Month in a discussion with resource providers and advocates on the importance of efforts to prevent sexual assault and resources needed for survivors and partner organizations. Beasley also discussed her work to keep North Carolinians safe, including through creating a human trafficking court while serving as Chief Justice.
“Sexual Assault Prevention and Awareness Month is a time to not only raise awareness about the prevalence of sexual assault in our communities, but also to take action to prevent it and protect North Carolinians. Advocates in North Carolina have been working hard to prevent this heinous crime and support survivors, and they need a partner in Washington. As a judge and Chief Justice I worked to keep communities safe, and I will continue to stand up for survivors and be that partner in the Senate,” said Cheri Beasley.
Beasley was joined by Tracy Wright, North Carolina Coalition Against Sexual Assault; Elizabeth Goodman, Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE); Gabriella Neyman, Training and Outreach Coordinator, UNCG Campus Violence Prevention Center; and Rachael Grosser, UNCW Student and Peer Coordinator at CARE (Collaboration for Assault Response & Education). According to the Centers for Disease Control, one in three women and one in four men have experienced sexual violence in their lifetime.
