RALEIGH: Sheriffs from across North Carolina released the following joint statement condemning a despicable and misleading attack from National Republicans:
“These attacks against Cheri are disgraceful and horrible. Cheri took an oath to uphold our Constitution and follow the rule of law, and she partnered with us to protect communities and hold violent offenders accountable. Having spent decades keeping North Carolina communities safe, we know that North Carolinians can trust Cheri to protect our communities and stand up for victims, just like she always has,” said Sheriff Kent Winstead (Franklin County), Sheriff Tony Durden (Caswell County), Sheriff Cleveland Atkinson, Jr. (Edgecombe County), Sheriff Mark Gulledge (Richmond County), Sheriff Curtis Brame (Vance County), and Sheriff Clarence Birkhead (Durham County).
The attack ad comes one day after a new poll shows Cheri tied with GOP candidates and that after a divisive primary, voters have an unfavorable view of both former failed Governor McCrory and D.C. insider Congressman Ted Budd.
Beasley’s nearly two decades of judicial service earned praise: as judge, law enforcement groups endorsed her, saying she would “respect traditional Constitutional values” and independent editorials celebrated her record as “fair, impartial and free of political bias.”
