House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement on the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) June 2022 jobs report:

“Yet again, the American work ethic beats the expectations of economists and naysayers. President Biden’s economy is strong, and our investments have powered these broad-based gains. Employment has returned to pre-pandemic levels in the private sector, and workers have access to the hours that they need, making it more likely that they can receive benefits like employer health coverage, retirement, and paid leave.

“This has been the fastest, most inclusive economic recovery in recent history, and even though 98 percent of the jobs lost during the pandemic have been recovered, the workforce participation rate of women still lags behind. We’ve heard exactly what they need to re-enter the workforce—affordable child care and access to paid leave. It’s simple, and it’s time for the Republicans to stop bemoaning over their recession narrative, and start listening to workers.

“In this bottom up economy, the American worker will not be deterred, and Democrats won’t stop bringing down costs, boosting paychecks, and implementing policies for stable, inclusive growth for all.”
