DENVER – Construction CEO Joe O’Dea announced Monday his U.S. Senate campaign has been endorsed by the state’s top gun rights organization and over a dozen Sheriffs from all across Colorado.
The Colorado State Shooting Association, the official state chapter of the National Rifle Association (NRA), said in their endorsement: “Joe O’Dea is a proven leader, not a flip-flopping politician. He will support the 2nd Amendment.”
“Americans have a God-given right to protect their homes and families, and to feel safe in their communities,” said Joe O’Dea. “In a time of growing lawlessness and crime, the far left ridicules the police and attacks the rights of law abiding gun owners. I won’t stand for it. I’m honored to have the support of these Second Amendment supporters and gun rights advocates as well as these respected sheriffs.”
O’Dea has been endorsed by current and former sheriffs all across Colorado, some of the most respected names in law enforcement: Justin Smith, Sheriff, Larimer County; Bill Elder, Sheriff, El Paso County; Jeff Shrader, Sheriff, Jefferson County; Allen Cooper, Sheriff, Fremont County; Tony Spurlock, Sheriff, Douglas County; Tom Nestor, Sheriff, Lincoln County; Aaron Shiplett, Sheriff, Baca County; Brett Powell, Sheriff, Logan County; Ted Mink, former Sheriff, Jefferson County; Matt Lewis, former Sheriff, Mesa County; and John Cooke, former Sheriff, Weld County, and current Colorado State Senate Minority Leader.
“Joe stands with law enforcement and law enforcement stands with Joe. I’m happy to add my name as an endorser of his campaign,” said Sheriff Bill Elder, El Paso County.
O’Dea said he was honored by these endorsements. “My father was a police officer, and the thought of him not coming home was always on my mind growing up,” added O’Dea. “We need a Senator in Washington D.C. who gets that, who will stand up for law enforcement, defend our communities from rampant crime, stand up for our rights, and push back against those on the left that seek to gut our police departments and sheriffs’ offices. I will be that Senator.”
Jefferson County Sheriff, Jeff Shrader put a clarifying point on his endorsement, “Michael Bennet never stood up to the ‘defund the police’ radicals and never defended law enforcement. I support Joe O’Dea because I believe we need a Senator who has our backs.”
Sam Zordel, The Sheriff of Prowers County, agreed, adding, “I endorse Joe O’Dea for U.S. Senate. No other candidate has the law enforcement roots or dedication to fighting crime as Joe does.”
“Crime is at an all-time high in Colorado. We need a Senator who will stand with law enforcement - and stand with the rule of law - and I believe Joe O’Dea will be that Senator,” concluded Mike McIntosh, the former Sheriff of Adams County.
Joe O’Dea has recently been endorsed by the Colorado Springs Gazette, Durango Herald, and former U.S. Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell. He’s previously been endorsed by a broad coalition of conservatives - from grassroots conservatives like Jon Caldara and Michael Fields; the citizens who took back Aurora; Second Amendment champions like Laura Carno; conservative leaders like Gov. Bill Owens, Sen. Hank Brown, and Treasurer Mark Hillman; the Denver Police union and Donald Trump’s U.S. Attorney.
