A recent news article (”Committee: Harris met with Trump to discuss election,” July 13) revealed that Rep. Andy Harris was involved in the Dec. 21 meeting with then-President Donald Trump to support Trump’s illegal and seditious attempt to overturn the election results. Rep. Harris was present along with 10 other members of Congress, all of whom worked to encourage the “Big Lie” and fight election results in spite of overwhelming evidence that the election was clearly won by Joe Biden. It should be no surprise that a number of the representatives involved in this meeting later asked for presidential pardons. Was Harris one of them?
This should be a wake-up call to all rational Republicans who have supported Harris in the past. Harris’ actions contributed to the Jan. 6 insurrection that posed a very real threat to our democracy. His actions resulted in a near-coup, the first in our nation’s history, and incited violence that cost lives. To say that our elected officials should be held to a higher standard than this is an understatement.
