Today, Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ), announced Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport will receive a $6,500,000 grant this year under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to begin work on construction of a new taxiway.
“Thanks to the leadership of President Biden and Congress, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law once again delivers for Arizonans,” said Rep. Gallego. “Phoenix Sky Harbor is a critical aviation hub, connecting Phoenix to the rest of the United States and the world and enabling people from everywhere to come experience our great state. However, as our state has grown, so has the strain on our aviation infrastructure. I’m proud to announce this win which kicks off an important project to ensure our airport can meet the demands of tomorrow.”
“Congressman Gallego's leadership on the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law elevates the significance of Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport for the global aviation industry and travelers," said Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego. "Among the top ten airports in the world for take-offs and landings, this new taxiway will position our airport for growth, reduce aircraft taxi time, improve utilization of all runways, and add capacity for current and future airline partners."
Distributed by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration, the funds announced today will create jobs for Arizonans and alleviate delays at Phoenix Sky Harbor by helping develop a new 2,100 foot Cross Field Taxiway U that allows a higher service volume of aircraft.
Ushered through Congress by Democratic House and Senate majorities and signed into law by President Biden in November 2021, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act provides $15 billion in funding for the Airport Infrastructure Grant (AIG) program. This grant award is one of many that will be disbursed to Phoenix Sky Harbor over the next five years of the program.
