WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Angie Craig released the following statement on the Senate agreement to hold a vote on the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022:

“While there are still details to be ironed out, the news that Democratic Senators have come to an agreement on the Inflation Reduction Act is incredibly encouraging. Over the past several months, I have called for a budget bill with Medicare price negotiations, the extension of Affordable Care Act premium tax credits to lower the cost of health insurance premiums and a broad array of legislative tools to lower costs for working families. After an initial review, I believe this long-overdue legislation accomplishes all of those goals and more by paying down our national debt, lowering energy costs and making health care and prescription drugs more affordable for millions of Americans. Over the next several weeks, I look forward to working with my colleagues in Congress to build support for this commonsense, fiscally responsible bill to address inflation and strengthen our economy for years to come.”

In Congress, Representative Craig has helped lead the effort to address the high cost of prescription drugs in the United States by fighting to preserve Medicare price negotiations in previous reconciliation negotiations. While consistently advocating for the extension of the Affordable Care Act’s premium tax credits, she has helped save millions of Americans thousands of dollars annually on their health insurance premiums by closing the ‘family glitch’ and introduced legislation to lower premium costs on the individual marketplace by an estimated eight percent. Craig has also been a leader in legislative efforts to lower costs for working families, as evidenced by the inclusion of two of her bills in the New Dem Coalition’s “Inflation Action Plan.”
