Today, Rep. Jack Bergman announced Madelyn Reece of East Jordan High School as the winner of the 2021 Congressional Art Competition for Michigan's First District. The winner's work will be displayed in the Cannon Tunnel of the U.S Capitol Building.

Rep. Bergman stated, "Congratulations to Madelyn Reece for her incredible artwork 'Night and Day.' The talent and initiative displayed in this annual competition serves as a reminder of the creativity and bright future of all of our students. The past year has been incredibly challenging for our students, and I'm proud of their continuous effort and grit as they have faced these obstacles head-on."

Each spring, the Congressional Institute and participating Members of Congress sponsor “An Artistic Discovery,” a nationwide high school visual art competition that recognizes and encourages artistic talent in each Congressional District. Since the pilot competition in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated.

The annual art competition is open to all high school students currently living in the First District for Michigan.
