WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Angie Craig announced her submission for the City of Shakopee  to receive $1,500,000 to construct the Regional Innovation Hub in 2023. Craig submitted her request for Community Project Funding (CPF) for the Fiscal Year 2023 Appropriations process, through which Members of Congress are able to request funding for up to 15 specific projects in their districts which would serve the public good.

“I’m proud to announce my submission for the City of Shakopee to receive federal support for this important project,” said Representative Craig. “Investing in workforce development programs, like the ones the Regional Innovation Hub creates lifelong, good-paying careers and successful families in our own communities. This project would help us bring immense benefit to our district by providing critical education, training and advancement opportunities for so many.”

"The opportunity for our Innovation Hub in Shakopee would be transformational in its ability to offer advanced education and engaged innovation for all,” said Shakopee Mayor Bill Mars. “It will be a regional asset for the SW Metro and regional business alike."

The funding would be used for constructing the Regional Innovation Hub, a state-of-the-art facility for job training and/or advanced, post-secondary education (in cooperation with Minnesota State University, Mankato), research and development and entrepreneurship programs. It will function as an activity center including space for co-working, entrepreneurs, a commercial kitchen, events and classroom and practical training. The Hub will act as an incubator, accelerator and education center for the counties of Scott, Carver, Dakota, Rice, Le Sueur, Blue Earth and parts of Hennepin. This economically important seven-county area has no centralized facility like The Hub for residents, business leaders and innovators to convene, collaborate, create and learn. It will provide significant and essential solutions to the region's manufacturing, educational and entrepreneurial workforce needs. If funded, the City of Shakopee will match the $1,500,000 in funding to complete the project.

The House Appropriations Committee intends to fund community projects on a limited basis in the FY23 Appropriations bills. Therefore, CPF requests that address the most significant needs of local communities or provide a significant public good are more likely to be included. The CPF program is being implemented with accountability measures to ensure a responsible and transparent process.
