Chestertown, MD – Today, Rep. Andy Harris voted against a bill establishing a national right to obtain and use contraception. This comes two days after Harris voted against a bill to protect the right to same-sex marriage. Both of Harris’ positions are broadly unpopular and would allow the government to interfere in Americans’ most personal and private decisions.

“We already knew Andy Harris was extreme, but opposing access to contraception is just beyond the pale – even for him,” said Heather Mizeur, Democratic nominee for Congress in Maryland’s First District.

“A recent poll found more than 90 percent of Americans believe birth control should be widely available,” Mizeur added. “And yet, Andy Harris doesn’t think adults should have the right to use contraception. He calls himself a conservative, yet he wants big government making decisions for us about family planning and our private lives.”
