Chestertown, MD – Today, Heather Mizeur, Democratic nominee for Congress in Maryland’s First District, expressed outrage over Rep. Andy Harris’ vote against a bill to help victims of human trafficking.

The bill, the Frederick Douglass Trafficking Victims Prevention and Protection Act of 2022, was introduced by Republican Rep. Chris Smith of New Jersey. It contains no controversial provisions and had virtually unanimous bipartisan support – a rarity in these times of great political polarization. Harris stood with a small handful of far-right extremists including Marjorie Taylor Greene, Lauren Boebert, and Matt Gaetz in opposing the bill.

“Andy Harris’ vote against protecting the most vulnerable among us from predatory sex traffickers is sickening and embarrassing,” Mizeur said. “However, to anyone who is paying attention, it is no longer shocking when our congressman takes these indefensible votes.”
