QUEEN ANNE’S COUNTY, Md. – Courtney Billups, the former vice president of the Queen Anne’s County Board of Commissioners, today announced his endorsement of former Attorney General Doug Gansler and former Hyattsville Mayor Candace Hollingsworth for governor and lieutenant governor of Maryland.
“There’s a number of great candidates in this race; Doug is the best,” said Billups. “A lot of people in Maryland don’t feel safe right now, and we need someone like Doug, who has 22 years of experience as a prosecutor fighting violent crime, to lead our state. I remember when Doug was State’s Attorney in Montgomery County, where he started the first environmental crimes unit in the state. He took that office into the 21st century with technology and diversity and really led the country in terms of State’s Attorney’s offices. I also appreciate Doug’s record of protecting the Bay as Attorney General by working with other states to conduct watershed audits. It’s important that we not only encourage farmers to use best practices but also really support them in continuing to get food to the table. Doug will bring the agricultural and environmental communities together to protect our Bay, and he’ll protect our communities by fighting crime and reckless development.”
“I love Queen Anne’s County and deeply admire all of Courtney’s accomplishments as commissioner,” said. “Courtney really made a difference there not only for the county but for the Eastern Shore as a whole. He really showed what was possible and what local government can do to improve the lives of the people we serve. Courtney’s endorsement means a lot to me because he’s known me for decades and has seen my work to keep our communities safe and our environment clean. I am grateful for his friendship and support of our campaign as we work to reach voters in Queen Anne’s County and in every corner of the state.”
