Two days until the primary. A few thoughts to share as I reflect upon the last ten weeks since I first declared my candidacy for US Senate on May 20th.
First, Kansas frontline caregivers are amazing! As I have traveled across the state, I specifically sought out professionals who work on the very front lines helping our children and youth. They serve in roles such as K-12 teacher; social worker; group home director; school district superintendent; food pantry director; homeless shelter director; foster care advocacy; and independent living support. They have shared amazing stories with me – many stories with heroes and happy endings – and, unfortunately, many more tales that are painfully sad and even tragic.
These frontline professionals face circumstances, that many of us – myself very much included – would deem hopeless. Yet, each morning they pick themselves back up and face the new day full of hope! These are amazing colleagues and I know that there are thousands more, just like them, across our state.
Second, this journey has connected – and reconnected – me with wonderful people who passionately believe that, when we work together, we have the very real ability to support those in our communities who truly need our help. I am immensely impressed and grateful and my own hope for our children and youth, and for us all, has been wonderfully affirmed.
August 2nd brings an end to the first chapter of this journey running for the US Senate. It would be both my joy and honor to continue this journey with you into the next chapter beginning August 3rd!
Thank you all! (And don’t forget to vote!)
