A Tennessee Congressman introduced new legislation Tuesday that would limit the federal government from resettling refugees within a state without that state’s consent.
Legislators at the state level are introducing a task force in response to migrant children moved throughout the state without their knowledge.
This comes a week after four late-night flights landed in Chattanooga carrying hundreds of migrant children.
Tennessee Governor Bill Lee said he declined a request to house those children two months prior and the federal government ignored him.
Congressman Mark Green, from Tennessee’s seventh district, which is west of Nashville, proposed the ‘Every State Has a Say Act’.
He says he drafted the legislation in response to what occurred in Chattanooga. He wants a change in border control policy, but says if migrant children are going to come to Tennessee he wants state leaders to be in the loop, and taxpayers to be compensated.
