U.S. Rep. Mark Green, R-Clarksville, will run for a third term in Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District, which will now encompass downtown Nashville and northwest Davidson County under a new redistricting plan.

Green announced his campaign on Tuesday, just days after Gov. Bill Lee signed into law a set of redistricting maps that divides Davidson County into three separate congressional districts, diluting county’s Democratic and minority vote.

In a campaign announcement, Green hit familiar Republican talking points, decrying “heavy-handed policies of the Democrat leadership in Washington.”

“As your representative in Washington, I will work to protect the rights of Tennesseans to govern themselves,” Green said. “The federal government has no right telling the people of Tennessee how to run their lives and businesses, what healthcare decisions to make, or even how to administer our elections.”
