U.S. Representative Peter Meijer’s (R-MI) bill, the bipartisan Federal PFAS Research Evaluation Act, which he introduced with Rep. Lizzie Fletcher (D-TX), this week passed the House by a vote of 359-62. The bill would implement a federal per-and polyfuluroalkyl substances (PFAS) study to uncover the health hazards of PFAS exposure. With this legislation, federal agencies who conduct PFAS research would be required to work with the National Academies of Science to conduct a two-phase study on PFAS exposure and toxicity. These studies would focus on both health and environmental effects of PFAS. The bill also requires the relevant agencies to develop a federal research and development plan to address PFAS exposure.

Earlier this week, Rep Meijer spoke on the House floor in support of the bill.
