[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Chair of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Subcommittee on Consumer Protection, Product Safety, and Data Security, released the following statement after President Joe Biden nominated Richard Trumka Jr. to serve as U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) Commissioner:

“Americans deserve an expert slate of consumer advocates spearheading the CPSC to protect them from unsafe products and I applaud President Biden for nominating Richard Trumka Jr. to the CPSC. Congress must swiftly approve his nomination, securing the critical third vote to enact a strong consumer agenda. Just as importantly, Congress must provide more resources for CPSC so it can robustly strengthen and enforce vital consumer and product safety laws to keep Americans safe.”

In May, Blumenthal, along with U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), wrote a letter to President Biden, urging him to bolster the leadership of the CPSC by swiftly nominating a diverse slate of consumer advocates to lead the agency. The full text of the letter can be found here.
