Today is the first annual National Fentanyl Awareness Day. Rep Earl L. “Buddy” Carter (R-GA), a pharmacist by trade, is educating families about the dangers of this lethal drug.
“Fentanyl overdoses are at an all-time high. This drug, often disguised as a simple painkiller, is ravaging our communities,” said Carter. “As a pharmacist, I am calling on the public to never take a pill that does not come directly from a pharmacy, no matter how innocent it may seem. As a Member of Congress, I am calling on the Biden Administration to permanently schedule Fentanyl so we can get this dangerous drug off our streets.”
2021 was the deadliest year on record for overdoses in Georgia, fueled by the increased supply of fentanyl. To help educate First District Residents about drug safety, Rep. Carter put together a safety card with resources on how to spot a counterfeit drug and resources for those struggling with addiction.
