In the face of a nationwide mental health crisis, the U.S. House of Representatives, with support from Rep. Earl L. “Buddy” Carter (R-GA), today passed the bipartisan Restoring Hope for Mental Health and Well-Being Act, which will improve school safety for young Americans and provide necessary aid to those suffering from severe mental illness.

“This is how we heal America. Our children are facing a troubling mental health crisis, amplified by isolation from the COVID-19 pandemic. We need to get to the root of what is ailing our youth and that starts with proper mental health resources and funding in our schools,” said Carter.

“I’m a father and a grandfather – there is nothing more important to me than the safety and wellbeing of my children and grandchildren. We owe it to them, and the whole of the American population, to sign this bill into law and turn despair into hope.”

Rep. Carter took to the House Floor to speak in favor of H.R. 7666 during debate. Watch his remarks here.
