Today, Congressman David Kustoff (TN-08) issued the following statement following the failure of the administrative leadership of Shelby County to properly store and administer the COVID-19 vaccine.

“The mishandling of the COVID-19 vaccine by the administrative leadership of Shelby County Government was highly reckless and those in charge must be held accountable. As we navigate the current global pandemic, these safe vaccinations are a lifesaver for many across our state and country, and we rely on our counties to help with this effort. Due to gross negligence and possible malfeasance, the Executive Branch of Shelby County Government mishandled and wasted thousands of vaccines, ultimately failing our local community,” said Rep. Kustoff. “Thankfully, the Tennessee Department of Health is working with the City of Memphis in order to achieve an efficient and effective distribution process. Without a doubt, local officials should be held accountable. I welcome the further investigation by state authorities and possibly federal authorities into this fiasco.”
