(Athens, GA) – Today, conservative businessman and Republican nominee for governor, Brian Kemp, toured Elm Street Elementary School in Newnan. Kemp listened to the concerns of teachers, parents, and administrators, and detailed his plans for school safety and early childhood education. Following the tour, Kemp for Governor issued the following statement: “As the father of three teenage girls and husband to a former pre-K teacher, I know the value of early learning and the impact it has on a child’s trajectory,” said Kemp. “To enhance educational outcomes in Georgia, we must invest in programs that improve childhood literacy rates and prepare students for a lifetime of learning.” In his first television ad of the General Election, Kemp highlights his vision for Georgia. He supports “investing in early, locally controlled education – not one-size-fits-all.” “Yesterday’s ‘Code Red’ in Cobb County is a frightening reminder that we must do everything in our power to protect our students and teachers, and keep our classrooms safe,” said Kemp. “In the same way that I led on courthouse safety in the State Senate, I’ll lead on school safety as governor. We will give local school districts the resources and tools they need to harden our facilities, train our educators, and prevent tragedies in the classroom.” In the State Senate, Kemp was an advocate for early childhood learning. He also led the bi-partisan effort to enhance courthouse security in Georgia. As the Chairman of Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee, Kemp implemented reforms that put local security plans in place and gave sheriffs autonomy over how best to use their resources for courthouse safety measures.
