Washington, D.C.--U.S. Representative John Rose (TN-6) led a group of 10 Members of Congress in sending a letter criticizing recent comments from the leader of the White House Council of Economic Advisors, Dr. Cecilia Rouse. At a recent online event hosted by the Center for American Progress, Dr. Rouse stated, in part, “most household balance sheets are strong and can provide some cushion for rising prices…” According to a survey conducted in January by Bankrate, 56% of Americans cannot cover a $1,000 emergency expense with their savings.

Rep. Rose released the following statement:

“I am astounded by the failure of the Chair of the White House Council of Economic Advisers to recognize that most Americans lack any cushion for the hardships they must endure due to the Biden Administration’s failed economic policies. Dr. Rouse should start by talking to American families she presumes to understand and then apologize to the millions of Americans struggling with skyrocketing prices for her hugely wrong assumption.”
