U.S. Congressman Drew Ferguson (R-Ga.), chief deputy whip of the House Republican Conference, released the following statement blasting President Biden’s nomination of Dara Lindenbaum to serve as a member of the Federal Election Commission (FEC).
“While we work to make it harder to cheat and easier to vote, there is no place on the Federal Election Commission for someone who calls Georgia’s voting system insecure and unreliable,” Ferguson said. “That’s why the United States Senate must reject Dara Lindenbaum’s nomination to the FEC. As an election lawyer, she spearheaded efforts by Fair Fight Action and Raphael Warnock to undermine Georgia’s election process, while also perpetuating false claims of voter suppression and peddling unsubstantiated allegations that our state’s voting machines changed votes from Stacey Abrams to Governor Brian Kemp in 2018. The FEC is an independent regulatory agency that exists to bolster public faith that campaigns are run with integrity. Given Lindembaum’s longstanding ties to Democratic candidates and left-leaning voter advocacy groups, her appointment would shift the FEC in a radically progressive direction and taint efforts to restore Americans' confidence in our elections.”
Lindenbaum testified on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, before the Senate Committee on Rules. The committee is expected to vote soon on whether to recommend her nomination to the full Senate.
